SAFETY INFORMATION
►Do not take ZOMIG if:
- your headache is not a migraine
- your headache is hemiplegic or basilar migraine (If you are unsure about this, ask your doctor)
- you have heart disease, history of, or risk factors for heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, circulation (blood flow) problems, or have had a stroke. Only your doctor can determine if ZOMIG is right for you
- you are allergic to zolmitriptan (active ingredient) or any of the ingredients in ZOMIG
►Before taking ZOMIG, tell your doctor if you:
- are pregnant or planning to become pregnant,
- are breast-feeding
- have risk factors for heart disease such as:
- have high blood pressure
- have high cholesterol
- are obese
- have diabetes
- smoke
- have a strong family history of heart disease
- are post menopausal
- are a male over the age of 40
►Safety and effectiveness of ZOMIG in pediatric patients have not been established
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
- Pain or tightness in the chest or throat, including muscle aches and pains when using ZOMIG. If this happens to you, discuss it with your doctor before using any more ZOMIG. If the chest pain is sever or does not go way, call your doctor immediately. As with other drugs in this class (triptans), there have been very rare reports of heart attact occuring in patients with or without risk factors for heart and blood vessel disease.
- Call your doctor immediately if you experience:
- alterations of heart rate
- temporary increase in blood pressure
- sudden severe stomach pain
- shortness of breath
- wheeziness
- heart throbbing
- swelling of the eyelids, face or lips
- skin rash
- skin lumps or hives
- Serious and potentially life-threatening:
- Serotonin Syndrome. This reaction may occur when using ZOMIG together with certain types of antidepressants know as SSRIs or SNRIS. Symptoms may include:
- confusion
- hallucinations
- fast heart beat
- feeling faint
- fever
- sweating
- muscle spasm
- difficulty walking and/or diarrhea
- Serotonin Syndrome. This reaction may occur when using ZOMIG together with certain types of antidepressants know as SSRIs or SNRIS. Symptoms may include:
- Other side effects:
- dry mouth
- tingling
- heat
- heaviness or pressure after treatment with ZOMIG
- drwsy
- dizzy
- tired
- sick
DRUG INTERACTION
- ZOMIG should not be used within 24 hours of another 5-HT1 agonist (triptans), ergotamine-containing or ergot-type medication (for headache), or within 2 weeks of an MAO-A inhibitor (for depression).
