SIDE EFFECTS
►MOST COMMON SIDE EFFECTS:
Because XENICAL works by blocking the absorption of dietary fat, it is likely that you will experience some changes in bowel habits. They generally occur during the first weeks of treatment; however, for some people they may continue for 6 months or longer while on XENICAL. These changes may include:
- gas with oily discharge
- an increased number of bowel movements, an urgent need to have them, and an inability to control them, particularly after meals containing higher amounts of fat than are recommended.
► OTHER SIDE EFFECTS:
- fever
- body ache
- cough
- headaches
- running nose
- sneezing
- sore throat
- oily stool discharge
- orange or brown colored oil in the stool
- bloody urine
- urination problems
- hearing difficulty
- dental problems
- sudden tension
- changes in the menstrual cycle
- rectal pain
Whatever the symptoms, it is best that you consult your personal health care specialist as soon as possible to investigate and establish the causes, and take the appropriate course of action.
DRUG INTERACTION
Be sure to discuss with your doctor all medications (including herbal products) you are currently taking, including medicines you can get without a prescription (over-the-counter), to determine if XENICAL can be taken in addition to these medications.
If you are taking cyclosporine, XENICAL and cyclosoprine should be taken at least 2 hours apart. If your cyclosporine levels are being measured, more frequent monitoring may be necessary.
If you are taking levothyroxine, XENICAL and levothyroxine should be taken at least 4 hours apart.
